It’s time once again to recap our river weekend with the Freckers. We were supposed to go back in July but due to all the rain over the weekend of the Fourth of July, the river was still too high the following weekend for us to take the boat out. So we rescheduled for Labor Day weekend.

The weather called for rain here and there, but because the Lowrys bring the beautiful weather (and the pain), we had a gorgeous weekend. We got there Saturday around 1 and pretty much got right out on the boat. We all took turns on the bandwagon and Mr. Frecker was our faithful, cheery captain the entire weekend. Man, that man has the patience of a saint. My dad would have thrown everyone overboard 30 minutes into the trip.

That night we had some delicious tacos prepared by Monique and Allen (and plenty of tasty beverages) and we all passed out (okay maybe just me) at 10:30 (my crude estimation).

Sunday we got up, went to church, and then Allen and his mom (another woman who needs some cannonization) made us some lunch to eat on the boat. We went to the sandbar, ate our lunch, and let the kids out to play in the sand. Then back we went to the house. The younger girls took naps while the older kids played and Jay tried to ski. I missed that event or I would have taken pictures. I did get some of Allen though. He’s such a stud up there on one ski, hair blowing in the breeze. 🙂

Later, Alejandra, Gabe, and Julia all took turns skiing. As you’ve probably seen from the pictures, the kids got right up pretty much and had a blast. Once Julia skied further than Gabe, Gabe had to have another turn and skied about half a mile. Allen was out there in the water helping all the kids and we pretty much left him in the dust. What a good sport and father to all children. Julia is maybe a little obsessed with him. She once wanted to cut a picture of Brad Pitt out of a magazine to give to him because she thought Allen looked just like him. She had to be right next to him the whole weekend. It was quite adorable.

Once the skiing was done for the day, Jay grilled up our summertime favorite jerk chicken. More drinks were had by all, and we even took a little evening boat ride, just the four of us. It was very romantic.

Monday started out cloudy as we headed to the sand bar, but cleared up just in time for the kids to try out more skiing. I think they would have done it forever. I would have more pictures except I was getting sick standing backward on the boat looking through the camera lens.

What a wonderful weekend. Thanks again Freckers, we can’t wait for next year!

Oh and one more--this was a buoy-setter. Apparently a rare sighting on the river.
