I just realized so far all the pics I’ve posted of food have been in a bowl. I do eat food off plates occasionally, in case you’re wondering. However, it’s just the season for soups and chilis! And during the week I make boring, basic food for us and the kids. Nothing to blog home about.

I haven’t written in a while so I’ll try to catch you up. Last week me and the kids were sick. Boo. But we did go to a Super Bowl party on Sunday and I brought these tasty Rocky Road Brownies:

I followed the general recipe however (there’s always a however) when I went to read the directions I realized it only made one dinky little square pan of brownies. So I decided to bake them in a 13″ x 9″ rectangular pan, and to double the recipe. I made them Sunday afternoon and didn’t have EXACTLY everything…so I had to…uh…punt! (Get it? Football reference! Ha!)

I was about 1/4 cup short on the chocolate chips so I added to the butter and chocolate mixture some hot chocolate mix. (It’s still chocolate, and it melted…) and I was short an egg so I used some egg whites to substitute. I baked it a little longer, and followed the rest of the directions. I let them cool nearly completely, but we had to get ready to go so they were a bit of a mess to cut while still warm. What I tasted during the cutting was delish!

However I’m a bit saddened to report that when we left at halftime there were still a good deal of brownies left! I really wanted to make a to-go bag of them but thought I’d look like a giant douchebag (funny to say but gross to write) to take what I brought home (it was really hard to resist though). So…no one else in the family got any. (Kerry, if you’re reading this, save us a brownie!)

And yesterday on our snow day, Jay put chicken in the slow cooker with a jar of salsa and a packet of taco seasoning. After five hours or so, shred the chicken and put it in a burrito with your favorite toppings! Very good. (I’ll spare you the bowl photo.)

Now that I’ve caught you up…

On to more important things. Like the snowman I made yesterday, by myself (because Gabe didn’t want to help me):

And the bedroom we are going to FINALLY get around to painting/decorating. I took some “before” pictures and I really don’t even want to show you, it’s so embarrassingly ugly. So if you promise to look quickly (pinky swear!) I’ll show you.

Ready? Okay here:

E-gads! Hurry! Look away! The people that used to live in our house had a penchant for orangey-beige and Army-green. There must have been a sale. By the gallon.

We’ve been in our house about 17 months now and are finally getting around to our bedroom. We’re going to paint the back wall a dark plum and the rest a mocha color if we can find the right one. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as I know you are all on the edge of your seats!
